A small towel and a bar of soap. A toothbrush. What if that was all you had? Imagine how wonderful these simple items would be if you had been forced from your home because of a disaster or a war. Our Family Home Evening group put together 101 hygiene kits on Monday night. We chatted and laughed as we worked, but gave little thought to the situation on a future day in which these very kits will be gratefully and anxiously received.
The kits contain the bare basics a family would need: 2 hand towels, 2 bars of soap, 4 toothbrushes and a tube of toothpaste, a couple of combs. They are tightly encased in a gallon-sized plastic zipped bag. The church has provided millions of these kits over the years in times of emergency. We met a young woman from Africa who still had the remnants of hers. She said that 25 women used it for 3 weeks. It was all they had. It made a huge difference for them.
The supplies for the kits we assembled were donated by a couple in our mission Zone, a retired doctor and his wife who are from Indiana. It was just something they wanted to do. They are typical of the many many good people we meet around here. Thanks, Hansens!

Cool! I remember when Em made those for her personal progress goals in YW. We do forget how much they are needed! Good post.
